What does Laser therapy have over other forms of therapy?
Laser therapy does not require the use of drugs or surgery. There are less side effects or risks, and it is quick and convenient. Studies have shown that it is equal to or more effective than other forms of physical therapy. Pain relief is often immediate and effective for many afflictions.
How does the laser work?
Class 3b & IV Laser therapy is a photo -chemical process. There have been more than 4000 research reports published and more than 700 double-blind positive studies to confirm the clinical effect of cold laser therapy. The laser photons increase the cells ability to take in oxygen and nutrients while passing out wastes and toxins. It further increases the permeability of the cell which allows for a sharp decrease in swelling, pain and inflammation. These high powered photons react with the chromophores in the mitochondria of the cells to produce Adenosine TriPhosphate (ATP), the chemical energy that is required for healing and rejuvenation. In simple English it accelerates healing and the restoration of function by turning light energy into healing energy!
Does it hurt? What does the treatment feel like?
There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally you may feel mild, soothing warmth. Laser treatment is relaxing and some people even fall asleep. On the other hand, in some cases, pain can increase or begin 6-24 hours after a treatment session. This is due to the laser light igniting the healing process. All healing begins with inflammation. This type of pain is particularly likely to arise when health problems are chronic in nature and the nerves are highly over sensitized.
How long does the treatment take?
The typical course of treatment is 10-minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Acute conditions may need to be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain. Chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times a week. Treatment plans are determined on an individual basis.
How many treatments does it take?
Treatment depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions, 2 to 6 treatments may be sufficient. More chronic conditions may require 10-15 sessions. Afterall, chronic conditions did not get that way over night and they cannot be relieved overnight or by some magic wand. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain. We may combine multiple treatment modalities to help you feel better - all at no charge. It is our goal to find a solution for your pain.
How long before results are felt?
You may feel improvement in your condition after the very first treatment. Each treatment is cumulative, and results are often felt after 2 to 4 sessions. Treatments take a few minutes; however, the therapeutic effect continues to sooth and heal long after you leave our office. Treatments are progressive and results compound with each visit. We are dedicated to finding you a solution. Alternative pain relief is our business.
Can it be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment?
Yes, laser therapy is even more effective when combined with other forms of therapy, including physical therapy, massage, soft tissue mobilization and following surgery.

What is PEMF Therapy?
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Cellular therapy is a therapy in which electromagnetic fields reach deep inside your body to exercise your cells. It causes your cells to expand and contract, similarly to when you work out at the gym. Just like your muscles, your cells need to be strong. Weak cells are characterized by low voltage. PEMF cellular exercise replenishes energy in low voltage cells. As your cells expand and contract, they are able to expel toxins and absorb nutrients. Your cells’ voltage increases and they grow stronger. High voltage cells are able to grow, heal, and reproduce successfully. Strong cells will create more strong cells!
What are some benefits of PEMF Therapy?
PEMF Cellular therapy has also been found to support the body’s own healing ability by replenishing the natural charge that exists in healthy cells. When your body is healthy you sleep better, experience more energy, and are less likely to experience pain and inflammation. PEMF also increases oxygen uptake which aids in healing and energy. This treatment works best when combined with laser therapy. PEMF is a proven, alternative, drug free pain relief option.
What is the history of PEMF Therapy?
The basic technology has existed in various forms for decades, starting with Nikola Tesla’s alternating current in the 1800’s. About seventy years ago, Dr. Harold Saxton Burr, PhD proved that disease was preceded by a quantifiable imbalance in our electrical charge. Shortly after, PEMF Cellular therapy began being used to aid in bone growth. PEMF is currently used to support whole body wellness.
Is PEMF safe?
Absolutely! This therapy charges your cells and allows them to function at their fullest capacity. Experiments conducted at Old Dominion University and supported by the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research observed the effects of ultra-powerful pulses on living tissue. As an emerging field of study, Bioelectrics reveal, “these powerful, ultrashort voltage pulses do something nothing else can—harmlessly slip past the cell’s exterior to shock the vital structures within.”
Who should NOT have PEMF?
If you have a pacemaker, are pregnant, have a history of seizure, or have any electronic device implanted in or on your body (that cannot be removed for the session), PEMF is not an option for you. Please ask us about other appointment types that may be helpful.
How long are the PEMF therapy sessions?
Generally, anywhere from 8 minutes to 40 minutes depending on your evaluation and the condition we are treating. We have 2 types of PEMF - high intensity and low intensity. They can be used individually or in combination depending on what will deliver the best results for you.
What if I have had joint replacement surgery?
That’s no problem. Even if you have metal screws, plates, rods, or joints, you can still participate in PEMF therapy.
What can I do to get the most benefit from PEMF Therapy?
PROPER HYDRATION is very important - please drink plenty of water. Eating a clean, healthy diet that includes raw, fresh vegetables, and fruits while being well hydrated are a great way to support any wellness program. When your cells and your brain can talk to each other and energy is flowing optimally throughout your nervous system, any therapy you try can be more effective. Cellular functions depend on proper nutrients, like calcium, magnesium and trace minerals to optimize your cellular functions. We recommend that you take a good daily vitamin, and hydrate well prior to your consultation appointment. This will create the most optimal healing environment for your body.
WHAT CAN PEMF THERAPY TREAT?
While there are many ways in which the body can heal itself, there are various places in the healing process where the body may get “stuck”. This is where tissues are most vulnerable. This vulnerable disease state can progress from acute to chronic. When the cellular change is a destructive one, a condition can become chronic. Reestablishing normal cellular communication is the only way to combat the dysfunction.Pain and inflammation are two of the most common conditions treated with PEMF therapies. Both can be categorized as either acute or chronic. Acute pain and inflammation in an otherwise reasonably healthy body will likely take care of themselves, though PEMF therapies are expected to streamline the process and speed up healing time. The earlier in the process you use PEMF therapies, the faster you will see results.
There are some health problems that cannot be corrected with PEMF therapy alone. One common example is with bone-on-bone arthritis in the knee or hip. In this circumstance, the damage is so extensive and so many tissues are involved that a joint replacement is often inevitable. Even in this situation, however, PEMF therapies can make a huge difference one way or another. If the magnetic therapy is not controlling the pain of the condition, it can assist the tissues to be as healthy as possible prior to having the joint replacement. After the surgery, the recovery time is expected to be shorter with the help of magnetic field therapy, and with a decreased risk of complications. In addition, some research and feedback from patients indicates that the prosthesis integrates better with the bone, making the new joint feel stronger. This osteointegration may also decrease the likelihood for future breakdown.
WHAT ADVERSE REACTIONS CAN OCCUR DURING PEMF THERAPY?
Sudden increases in circulation, especially in ischemic tissues (areas with restricted or reduced blood flow) may lead to uncomfortable increases in circulation for a short time after the magnetic field has been applied. The increase in circulation, while usually a desirable effect, can lead to a surge in oxidative stress. It is desirable to have adequate antioxidant support in the body before beginning treatment. Sudden improvements in circulation may also lead to aggravations of existing extensive or severe inflammatory processes, typically in the skin. Aggravation of hives is likewise possible and should be considered before starting treatment.
When nerve cells are suddenly stimulated, pain may be temporarily aggravated due to the increased signal traffic in the nerve and/or improved circulation to the nerve/s. We see this in individuals who have had prior fractures or scars. Magnetic fields applied distal to the fracture site or scar may temporarily cause pain at the fracture site. If there are multiple blockages along the body, magnetic treatment may cause the phenomenon of “chasing the pain”.
In this situation, when one area is treated and improved, another area that may have been quiet, now begins to show pain or discomfort. Normally these problems are not a concern, but should be recognized as a normal consequence of magnetic therapy. In some situations, where the magnetic therapy causes pain in a body part that does not normally have pain, this may be an indication of an unidentified underlying problem in that body part, and medical evaluation should be considered. In this case, the magnetic therapy serves as an early warning process.
